Our second annual adoption day will be held at the store and is brought to us by the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue.  A record number of these beautiful dogs found new forever homes when we had this event last summer!  

Come find your new best friend and help a dog in need!  

Human refreshments will be provided inside the store.

4th Annual DOGGIE HOWL-O-WEEN! to benefit Service Dogs of Virginia

When: Sunday, October 30, 2011 2:00-5:00 p.m.  Costume Contest registration opens at 1:30.

Where: Downtown Mall Put on your dog's best costume for a spook-tacular time Trick-or-Treating on the downtown mall. Over 20 businesses will be handing out yummy treats just for your pooch!

A doggie costume parade begins at 3:00. And the costume contest starts at 3:30. Prizes awarded by local celebrity judges!  Costume Contest is $10/dog and limited to the first 100 dogs. To register and pay by credit card go online to: www.servicedogsva.org.  To register and pay by check: Service Dogs of Virginia, PO Box 408, Charlottesville, VA 22902. Be sure to include your contact info. To pre-register and bring your payment to the costume contest, email info@servicedogsva.org with your contact info.

  • 4th Annual  HOWL-IDAY 'YAPPY' HOUR! Saturday, December 4, 2010, 1:00-3:00 pm.  Celebrate the holidays with your dogs at our annual party!  Complimentary all-natural dog treats; Many door prizes; Refreshments for humans

  • 3rd Annual DOGGIE HOWL-O-WEEN!  Due to Pres. Obama's visit to the downtown mall on Friday, the city has changed our event to SATURDAY, 10/30/10!!  Same time and place! Put on your dog's best costume and bring them Trick-or-Treating (for doggie treats) on the downtown mall at participating businesses (6-7pm). Then at 7pm join in the doggie costume parade through the mall and enter the costume contest on stage at Central Place. Prizes will be awarded by local celebrity judges: Charlottesville's WCHV radio personality, Joe Thomas; City of Charlottesville's Director of Communications, Ric Barrick; and Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA Director, Susanne Kogut!  Contest entries must register in advance at the Dog & Horse Lovers Boutique. Limited to the first 100 dogs!  $5 entry fee/dog.  PROCEEDS BENEFIT Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA.  Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:  Scariest, Funniest, Prettiest, Most Handsome, Most Original, Best Theme.  Please check in at the Dog & Horse Lovers Boutique at 6pm to receive your entry number.  Happy Howl-0-weeeeen!!

  • Downtown Fashion Show, Saturday September 25th, 2010, 7 p.m. at Central Place on the downtown mall.  Come see the latest human and canine fashions at the upcoming Mall Fashion Show!  We will be joining 11 other downtown boutiques in this show which will benefit The Women's Initiative in Charlottesville.  It's free to watch, but raffle tickets will be sold throughout the show for gift certificates to participating stores.

  • Service Dogs Puppy Shower, Saturday, July 10, 2010  2-4 pm   The Dog & Horse Lovers Boutique is looking forward to hosting the Service Dogs of Virginia Puppy Shower at the store!  Join us as we welcome five new puppies to Service Dogs of Virginia!  Stop by to meet the puppies and have some refreshments. Gifts are welcome! The puppies have baby registries at Amazon.com, Target, and the Dog & Horse Lovers Boutique.

 

  • 'Be My Valentine' Yappy Hour! Saturday, February 13, 2010 1-3 p.m.   Make a paw-print Valentine with your Dog!  Great to send to family and friends fromyou and your dog.  Complimentary "treats" and refreshments for dogs and their humans!

  • Howl-i-day Yappy Hour & Parade & Pet Photos with Mrs. Claus, Saturday, November 21, 2009, 10 am-12 noon.  Join the city's annual holiday parade on the downtown mall where we will march from the Omni to the pavilion along with local dance groups, bands and floats as well as the Fife and Drum Corp that performed for the White House!

  • St. Patty's Day "Yappy Hour" Saturday, March 14th, 2009, 2-4 p.m.  Bring your dog down for a fun afternoon of shopping and socializing!  Enter the "Luck o' the Irish" doggie door prize (drawing at 2:30 p.m.) and join in the St. Patty's Day parade on the mall at 3 p.m.  We'll provide festive bandanas/hats for your pooch to parade in.  Treats and refreshments will be served in the store for both dogs and their humans. 

  • Doggie "Changing of the Guard" photo op. Saturday, March 7th, 2009.  As part of the 500 Block Party's London theme, we will be taking photos of your dogs dressed up in waxed cotton coats and other raincoats imported from London (provided by our store) in front of a backdrop of Buckingham Palace.  Bring your dog and your camera, or we can take the photo for you, with any donations going to the Virginia Discovery Museum.  Photos: 1-2 p.m.;  Tea cakes and cookies (including doggie cookies) will be served in the store 12-4 p.m.

Dog pulling a fancy cart filled with other Bernese Mtn. Dog stuffed animals (won two tickets to A Christmas Carol donated by The Paramount Theater)

  • Downtown Fashion Show, September 20th, 2008, 7 p.m. at Central Place on the downtown mall  The latest human and canine fashions for Fall were revealed at the show.  There were nine participating stores, including the Dog & Horse Lovers Boutique!  Proceeds benefited the Focus Women's Center.
